Music Lessons at Your Home in Sydney
Your teacher comes to you. No commute, no school-run squeeze, and your lessons happen on the instrument you actually practise on.
Why Lessons at Home Work So Well
Save the Travel Time
For busy families, removing the drive to and from a lesson is often the difference between sticking with music and giving it up.
Learn on Your Own Instrument
Your teacher sees the exact piano, keyboard or drum kit you practise on, and can help with setup, tuning and what to buy next.
Comfortable for Children
Younger students are often more relaxed in their own space, and a parent is close by.
Fits Whole Families
Siblings, or a parent and child, may be able to learn back to back on the same visit. Ask when you enquire.

Only a sample. We have teachers who travel across most of Sydney. Give us your suburb and we will see who covers it.
How Far Do Teachers Travel?
It varies. Some teachers are comfortable covering a radius around their suburb, for example Hilda travels up to 10km from Kingsford. Others cover a particular region such as the Hills District or the Inner West. Some charge a travel fee for home visits. Justina, our harp and piano teacher in Ashfield, notes that a travel fee applies for in-home lessons across the Inner West.
Because every teacher is different, we confirm the travel area and any fee before you book. Browse our area pages to see who is based near you: Inner West, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Western Suburbs and more.
Getting Your Home Ready
- A quiet spot. A room with a door and a chair or stool is enough.
- Your instrument, ready to play. Tuned and in working order where possible. Your teacher can advise.
- Music stand and notebook. Handy for notes and practice goals.
- A parent nearby for younger children. Most families like to be around, at least at first.
Some teachers will also meet at a location of your choosing. Anil, for example, offers lessons at his home, online, or at a location the student chooses.
Common Questions
Is there a travel fee?
Some teachers charge one and some do not. Justina, for example, notes that a travel fee applies for in-home lessons. We confirm any fee with you before you book.
Do I need to own an instrument?
For lessons at home, yes, you will need an instrument to practise on. Your teacher can advise on what to buy or rent for your level and budget.
Are travelling teachers safe to have in my home?
Every teacher we list has a Working With Children Check or a police check. We also assess experience, qualifications, teaching style and personality before a teacher is listed.
How far will a teacher travel?
It differs by teacher. Hilda, for example, travels up to 10km from Kingsford, while others cover a region such as the Hills District. We will check that your suburb is covered.
Can lessons take place somewhere other than my home?
Sometimes. A few teachers will meet at another location you choose. Ask when you enquire.
