Online Music Lessons
Learn live over video from vetted teachers, wherever you are. Real lessons, a real teacher, and no travel.
How Online Lessons Work
1. We Match You
Tell us the instrument, your level and when you are free. We pick online-friendly teachers who suit you.
2. You Meet on Video
Lessons run live over a video call, one-on-one, with the same structure as an in-person lesson.
3. You Practise and Progress
Your teacher sets goals and shares materials as needed. You practise on your own instrument and check in each week.
Who Online Lessons Suit Best
Online lessons work particularly well for students with packed schedules, those living far from a suitable teacher, and learners who want a specialist teacher who happens to be elsewhere. Some of our online teachers are based overseas: Anton teaches from Madrid, and Tina is studying in Cologne, which lets Sydney students learn from a teacher they could not otherwise meet.
Online is also a good choice for theory, voice, songwriting and music production in programs such as Logic Pro and Ableton, where the screen is part of the lesson. For very young children, in-person lessons at home or in a studio often work better, so we usually recommend a face-to-face option for kids to begin with.

Setting Up for a Good Online Lesson
- A stable connection. A wired or strong Wi-Fi connection avoids drop-outs.
- Good camera angle. Your teacher needs to see your hands and posture, not just your face. A laptop on a stand or a phone on a tripod helps.
- Sound. Headphones or an external speaker can make it easier to hear detail. Your teacher can suggest settings.
- An uncluttered space. Somewhere quiet with room for your instrument and music stand.
Online has real trade-offs: the sound over video is not perfect, and playing together in time is harder. Good online teachers work with this, and some of our teachers, such as Sofija, find their online lessons work just as well as in person.
Common Questions
Are online lessons live or recorded?
Live. You and your teacher meet on a video call and work together in real time, just like an in-person lesson.
Do I need special equipment?
You need your instrument, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Headphones help. Your teacher can advise on setup.
Can young children learn online?
Some do, particularly if a parent can help with setup. Younger children often learn best with a teacher in the room, so we usually recommend starting in person. Teenagers are generally comfortable online.
Can online lessons work for piano or drums?
Yes, as long as you have the instrument at home. A camera angle that shows your hands is important. Your teacher will help you set it up.
How much do online lessons cost?
Teachers on this page charge from $60 to $110 an hour. Because teachers set their own rates, we will share current prices when we match you.
