Music Lessons in the Inner City and CBD

Teachers in Ultimo, Surry Hills, Redfern, Waterloo and the city itself, with lessons close to where you live, work or study.

Lessons in the Heart of Sydney

Our inner city teachers are based in Surry Hills, Ultimo, Darlington, Redfern, Sydney, Waterloo and Woolloomooloo. Most of those suburbs are a short trip from Central Station, which makes it easy to fit a lesson around work or study, or to meet at a nearby studio.

Because the city is compact, travelling teachers can reach a lot of students in a day. Nine teachers are based here, and seven of them say in their profiles that they travel to students. They include Red, Luciano, Revi and Greer.

Where Students and Musicians Meet

The city is the centre of Sydney’s music scene, and it shows in the teachers. Red and Sophia are both studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Greer is a soul and jazz vocalist who won Best Vocalist at the 2025 National Rockquest Finals. Alexey is a concert pianist who was a finalist in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

That mix of working musicians and students means you can choose between young, current players with up-to-date repertoire and experienced performers with decades on stage.

Teaching in Apartments

Many inner city students live in apartments, so noise is a real consideration. Your teacher can help you choose and set up a practice routine that suits shared walls. Digital pianos with headphones, electric guitars and quieter practice gear are all common solutions. Rates here run from $70 to $120 an hour.

If you need a bigger instrument or a dedicated space, studio lessons are an option. Prefer to stay in? Read about online lessons and lessons at your home. We also have a page for saxophone lessons in the inner city.
