Brian — Saxophone, Clarinet & Composition Teacher
Brian is a Sydney based saxophonist who began playing at the age of nine and has since studied under several distinguished tutors, including Jeffrey Chen (Hong Kong), Jay Byrnes (Brisbane), and Andrew Smith (Sydney). He has also taken part in masterclasses with respected educators such as Michael Duke (Sydney), gaining valuable insight into performance and musicianship along the way. After moving to Australia in Year 5, Brian quickly immersed himself in school music programs, joining ensembles while continuing private tuition, experiences that helped shape his teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
Since Year 7, Brian has attended the Conservatorium High School, where he has been mentored by Andrew Smith in his saxophone performance studies. During this time, he achieved a High Distinction in the AMEB Certificate of Performance examination, was a semifinalist in the 2026 LCCB Competition, and is currently working towards his LMusA qualification. These achievements reflect not only his technical growth as a performer but also the discipline and dedication he brings to his musical development.
As a teacher, Brian has gained experience tutoring and mentoring students of various ages and abilities, developing a strong appreciation for adapting teaching methods to suit each individual learner. While he is still building his experience as an educator, he approaches this journey with genuine enthusiasm, eager to continue learning and growingin the field. His long term goal is to become a teacher who brings sincerity, professionalism, patience, and adaptability to every lesson, helping students grow both musically and in their enjoyment of learning.
