Dr Denise - Piano & Music Theory

Dr Denise has over 30+ years teaching experience, working with children and adults across all levels. She holds BA degrees in Music and Fine Arts (California State University, Sacramento), a Master of Arts in Teaching (Southern Oregon University), and a PhD in Education (The University of Sydney).

An Associate Lecturer and Supervisor at The University of Sydney, Denise has also lectured at UNSW. She is an accredited piano teacher with the Music Teachers’ Association of NSW, and prepares students for AMEB and HSC Music examinations. Her work has been recognised through awards including a Fulbright Memorial Scholarship Fund grant (Japan) and the Frank Mancini Memorial Award for Music, with concerts and events presented at venues including the Sydney Opera House, St Augustine’s College, Sydney Vocal Arts Centre, and William Street Studios.

Denise’s teaching blends strong music literacy with practical application, so students understand what they’re playing and why. Lessons are structured yet responsive to the individual, covering a range of styles while building a clear, progressive pathway. Technique, theory, sight-reading, composition, improvisation, and vocal development are integrated in a way that supports both confident playing and long-term musical independence.
