Free Trial Music Lessons
Choosing a teacher is a big decision. Meet your teacher first, with no obligation, and see whether the lessons feel right.
Why Start With a Trial?
A music teacher is a long-term relationship. You will see them every week and rely on them to guide your progress. A trial lesson is the easiest way to find out whether you click before you commit time and money.
When you enquire, we match you with teachers based on your suburb, schedule, budget and goals. You then choose the teacher you like, with no obligation, and arrange your first lesson. That means you are never locked into a teacher you have not met.
How a Trial Lesson Usually Works
1. Tell Us What You Want
Your instrument, who the lessons are for, your suburb and whether you prefer home, studio or online.
2. We Line Up Teachers
We shortlist vetted teachers in your area and price range, so you are not trawling through directories.
3. You Try Your First Lesson
You meet your teacher, play or talk through your goals, and decide whether to continue.
Whether a free trial lesson is available depends on the teacher. Tell us you would like to try before you commit, and we will confirm exactly what is on offer before you book.
Getting the Most From Your First Lesson
- Tell your teacher your goal. Whether it is exams, a favourite song or just enjoyment, the more specific, the better.
- Bring your instrument if you have one. If not, say so. Your teacher can show you what to look for.
- Notice how they explain things. Do they check you understand? Are they patient? Do you feel comfortable asking questions?
- Ask about practice. A good teacher can tell you what a realistic routine looks like.
Questions to Ask a Teacher
- How do you structure a typical lesson?
- What experience do you have with students like me (or my child)?
- How will I know if I am making progress?
- What would you recommend for equipment?
- Do you prepare students for exams, auditions or school band, if that matters to me?
If the fit is not right, tell us. Matching is part of what we do, and we can suggest another teacher.
Common Questions
Is the first lesson free?
It depends on the teacher. Tell us you would like to try first and we will confirm what a first lesson involves, and whether it is free, before you book.
Do I have to continue after the first lesson?
No. You choose your teacher with no obligation and you are not committing to ongoing lessons just by trying one.
What if I do not like the teacher?
Tell us. Fit matters, and we can recommend another teacher who might suit you better.
Can I try a lesson online?
Yes. Many teachers offer online lessons, so you can try one from home. See online music lessons.
