Joey is an undergraduate at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying a Bachelor of Piano Performance and Advanced Studies under Dr. Paul Rickard Ford. Introduced to the piano by his mother at age six, he has since built a deep, disciplined relationship with the instrument, and his dedication was recognised with the Vasanta Scholarship from the Dean of the Conservatorium.
His achievements reflect steady, impressive growth. In September 2025, in just his first year, he won Second Prize in the Conservatorium’s Piano Concerto Competition, competing against students at all levels, including Postgraduate Master’s candidates. Earlier highlights include a joint First Prize at the 2023 Kings Peak International Music Competition, an Honourable Mention at the 2022 Melbourne International Piano and Strings Festival, Second Prize at the 2017 Shimoda International Music Competition, and First Prize at the 2015 Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
Beyond performing, Joey has a genuine passion for teaching, finding real fulfilment in his students’ growth. He takes the time to get to know each student personally, allowing him to tailor his lessons to their individual needs and goals, making him as thoughtful a mentor as he is a pianist.
