Stephen — Flute Teacher

Stephen — Flute Teacher

Stephen is a passionate and patient flute tutor with a special understanding of the adult beginner experience, having taken up the instrument himself as an adult. He has played flute in a woodwinds orchestra and piano for his church choir for many years, and is also an active volunteer in aged care and at his church, bringing the same patience and care to his teaching as he does to his community work.

Stephen’s teaching is built on three core values: motivation, patience, and communication. He believes learning music should be enjoyable, disciplined, and meaningful, and keeps students engaged through positive feedback, achievable goals, and recognition of every milestone. Because he understands firsthand that adult learners often juggle work, family, and other commitments, he adapts his pace to each student rather than expecting them to fit a rigid structure. In lessons, he guides students through breathing technique, tone production, and musicianship, explaining each step in clear, simple language and reinforcing it through demonstration.

Stephen welcomes questions and listens closely to each student’s concerns, helping them build genuine confidence rather than just technical skill. His philosophy is simple: it’s never too late to begin a musical journey, and with the right guidance, anyone can learn to play the flute well, regardless of age.
