Jamie is an experienced cello teacher who has been playing since the age of 4 and has trained across Suzuki, ABRSM, AMEB, and Trinity College. He holds both an ATCL with Distinction and a DipABRSM with Distinction, and was also nominated for an ENCORE performance .
Alongside his formal training, Jamie has performed with Sydney Youth Orchestra chamber ensembles and has travelled around Japan performing from a young age. He also has experience beyond classical music, including jazz and improvisation, giving him a broader musical perspective as a teacher.
Jamie’s teaching focuses on helping students build strong rhythm, sound, and technique from the ground up. He places a strong emphasis on listening, as this is one of the most effective ways to improve both tone and technical control. He also sees rhythm as the foundation of music, helping students develop secure timing so everything else in the piece can sit properly on top.
A big part of his teaching is helping students produce a more expressive and controlled sound through bowing and bow control. He also likes to explore different ways of approaching a piece, offering students practical options so they can find what feels most natural, effective, and comfortable in their playing.
Jamie’s goal is to help students become more confident, musical, and technically secure on the cello, while making lessons thoughtful, productive, and enjoyable.
